Activator solution is a simple 50/50 mixture of distilled water and propylene glycol. This solution is preferred over regular tap water because tap water contains chemicals which emit oders and foul tastes. In addition, the chemicals in tap water clog the humidifier. Activator solution helps maintain the freshness of cigars by preventing mold and altered tastes.
Activator solution is simple to use. Take your humidifier and place it on top of a cloth on an flat surface. Squirt some solution into the humidifier. DO NOT drench the humidifier, rather just make it wet. Let the humidifier sit for thirty minutes. Shake off excess liquid, wipe clean with a cloth and place it back into your humidor. Make sure that there is no water dripping.
